Highland Dynamics BG2 (#1) Overview

The Highland Dynamics BG2 Analog Compressor is an all-tube, fully transformer-balanced Vari Mu compressor.  The BG2 is a colorful analog device that delivers clean, smooth compression or warm tube/transformer grit.

It is designed as a hybrid with the gain reduction tube stage similar to that of a British-modified Altec 436, while the output is like a Gates Sta-Level or RCA BA6A. Choose between 150/600 input impedance and American/British feedback for different transformer and compression characteristics.

The BG2’s front-end design was inspired by the British-modified Altec 436, and it has custom, oversized transformers, US and European capacitors, and a US Simpson meter.  It’s known for its airy, tube-heavy sound that can be produced using different compression modes.

You will be amazed by how deep you can bury the needle on the BG2 and still get artifact-free compression that brings your source sound forward with round, even presence. Explore the variety of BG2 tones that are truly unique to analog processing, and find that perfect sweet spot that makes everything sound better!

Tips

600 impedance, British feedback is cleaner.  Try 150 impedance and American feedback for more beefy grit.
